Many “professional CV reviews” aren’t what they appear. They aren’t always genuine, and frequently don’t have your best interests at heart. Some even use false statistics and scare tactics (such as ATS) to panic executives into buying their service.
It’s sad to say, but many “professional CV reviews” are more about sales than helping people.
We’ve been improving CVs for executives for over 20 years. Most clients approach us not with DIY CVs, but with failing CVs written by alleged “top firms.” Most clients just send us the CV that needs fixing, but sometimes clients send more information, including previous appraisals from other firms.
Reviewers
You’d think that the person reviewing your CV would be a real expert. That’s a natural assumption, and is one reason why many just take the comments (and sometimes statistics) at face value.
However, many reviewers are just sales and admin people (essentially laymen). Moreover, some written reviews are automated to some degree, and some we’ve seen over the years are almost identical (even when reviewing very different CVs).
Genuine expertise
This may come as a surprise to some, but genuine expertise is a pretty rare commodity in the CV sector. It’s one reason why we are so confident we can improve any professional CV, that we actually guarantee it.
You’ll be reassured to know that all our CV reviews are conducted personally (and manually) by Paul. None are subcontracted or farmed out to freelancers or other firms (as sometimes happens elsewhere).
If Paul identifies areas for improvement then he’ll let you know, but it’ll be an honest appraisal and it won’t include false statistics or typical scare tactics such as ATS. As we don’t have any salespeople you’ll be pleased to hear that no one will call you, badger you, or to try to twist your arm either.
What kind of things do you assess?
While some CVs that we receive have similar issues to others, CVs come to us in all sorts of shapes, sizes and formats, and there are always exceptions. As such, we take an individual approach, and any observations, comments and advice will be based on your own individual CV and your circumstances.
As it’s a real (manual, not automated or semiautomated) appraisal, we also encourage executives to send us details of your target job. That way, Paul can better assess your CV in context.
Do executives find our CV review service helpful?
Yes, and Paul regularly receives comments about not only the quality of the review, but also his honesty.
It’s very straightforward.
In the first instance please click the button below and upload your CV.
Paul will be in touch once he is free and has examined your CV.
This is usually within two working days. If you need your appraisal back sooner then please mention this in the comments when you upload your CV.
